A Day Without Water

Can Concord Imagine A Day Without Water? What would happen?

Underground, out of sight, and out of mind, is a massive network of water systems that work 24/7 to distribute clean drinking water and then collect that used water back for processing. Many pipes in America were built in the 1800s or early 1900s and were built for cities of a century ago, not today’s cities.

If these systems failed us for a day, Concord would not function very well. Imagine a day without water. You couldn’t drink it, brush your teeth, wash your hands, flush the toilet, take a shower, or even have a cup of coffee. Hospitals, schools, and restaurants all need water too. Water keeps our economy flowing.

If we invest in maintaining our system, upgrading our pipes, and implementing smarter technology that detects weaknesses in the system, then we can save money in the long run. We must remember the value of water and continue to invest in the infrastructure so Concord will never have to imagine a day without water.

Concord General Services proudly supplies the City of Concord with water and knows how essential water is to our lives. That is why Concord General Services is participating in The Value of Water Coalition’s nationwide educational effort, “Imagine a Day Without Water” (Oct. 6th-8th). People don’t usually think about water because they rely on it being there every time they turn on the faucet.

We encourage you to notice throughout the day how many times you come in contact with water and to remember the value of water.
