Democrats Want Files From Chris Sununu, AG
Executive councilor recently said he's considering a run for governor.
Days after Newfields resident Chris Sununu said he's considering a run for governor, the New Hampshire Democratic Party said it's filing a Right-to-Know request for documents related to a recent investigation of him.
Sununu, a Republican, is in the midst of his second term as an Executive Councilor.
Attorney General Michael Delaney conducted an investigation into a character letter Sununu wrote to a judge supporting former Salem politician Patrick McDougall, who was recently convicted of an obstruction of government administration charge.

Sununu's letter was called into question because of his political status. Sununu said he wrote it as an ordinary citizen and didn't try to leverage his position as an Executive Councilor.
Delaney's investigation found no wrongdoing on Sununu's part.

The NHDP on March 19, issued a press release saying it wants all communications between Sununu and the judge—along with Delaney's investigation file.
Sununu said the issue is over with and that the NHDP is trying to dig up dirt that doesn't exist.
"My closet is wide open and there are no skeletons in there," he said in an interview Tuesday. "The Democrats are clearly very concerned that I might actually run for higher office, because they know I would win."
Sununu said he's also considering a run against Carol Shea-Porter for her Congressional seat.
New Hampshire Republican Party Chair Jennifer Horn issued the following response to the NHDP's announcement:
Governor Hassan has clearly directed her state party to harass Michael Delaney because she is unhappy that the Democratic Attorney General dismissed the frivolous complaint against Councilor Sununu. Governor Hassan was already upset that Attorney General Delaney criticized her irresponsible casino revenue scheme and she is obviously furious that he refused to politicize baseless accusations made against a Republican. The actions of Hassan's state party raise even more questions about reports that the governor is punishing Delaney by denying him another term as Attorney General.
Delaney announced Tuesday he will soon step down from his post.
