Double Fatal SUV Crash Reported In Windham: NH State Police

2 women from Lawrence, Massachusetts, died on Monday after a Jeep Cherokee rolled down an embankment on Interstate 93 in the area of Exit 3.

WINDHAM, NH — Two women from Lawrence, Massachusetts, died on Monday after a crash on Interstate 93 south in Windham, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Troopers and Windham fire and rescue teams were sent to the area near Mile Marker 6 by Exit 3 around 5 a.m. for a report of a crash. When they arrived, investigators determined a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee "veered left to right across the highway before striking the guardrail and breaking through it," according to Lt. Bryan Trask of Troop B.

"After doing so, the vehicle rolled down an embankment and came to rest approximately 100 yards off the roadway," he said.

Lesley Martinez Velazquez, 23, and Sasha Peralta, 31, both of Lawrence, MA, were ejected and killed due to the crash. Trask said two right lanes of the highway were shut down during the investigation for "a lengthy period of time." He added, "speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this crash."

Trask said, along with Windham fire, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation assisted state troopers at the crash scene.
