CONCORD, NH — A woman was killed this morning during a single-vehicle crash on Route 101 East in Candia, according to New Hampshire State Police. Ashley Shunk, 21, was a passenger in a Kia Forte when it veered off the highway and crashed into trees near Exit 2. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers from Troop A were called to the crash scene at around 1:15 a.m. on May 1, 2019. When they arrived, they found the vehicle “off the right hand side of the roadway in the tree line,” according to Sgt. Greg Dube of the NHSP.

“Based upon the initial investigation, the Kia Forte was traveling eastbound when it lost control and veered off the roadway to the right, drove down an embankment and then crashed head on into a group of trees,” Dube noted. “At this time, it appears that speed was a factor in this crash, however all aspects remain under investigation.”
The New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (C.A.R.) Unit was called to the scene and assisted by the Candia Police Department, Candia Fire and Rescue, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. Route 101 East was closed for around four hours.
