Downtown Concord's Main Street Work Zone Flips
Construction is scheduled to wrap up by Nov. 11.

The Main Street Project work zone flipped to the west side of South Main on July 18, 2016, from Pleasant Street south to Concord Street (Capitol Center for the Arts).
This marks the final phase of the Main Street Project. You can hear City Engineer Ed Roberge's assessment of it progress in the latest edition of the Main Street Minute.

As a result, the traffic pattern will change(see the attached map) with traffic moving through the work area in one lane northbound, and southbound traffic detoured at the Pleasant Street/ South Main Street intersection to Storrs Street or State Street. Flaggers will be in place to direct motorists and pedestrians next week. Side streets connecting to and through the S. Main work zone will be open during this project phase with sporadic closures for utility and crosswalk construction. Motorists are asked to be alert when crossing the work area to turn north. In addition to the streetscape improvements (new sidewalks, streetlights, trees, benches, planters and wayfinding signage) that we’ve implemented in the previous phases of construction, overhead utilities are being placed underground.
Unless something entirely unforeseen occurs, construction is scheduled to wrap up, and the project will be complete, by Nov. 11.

Free parking
There will be free two-hour parking in the newly rebuilt section of South Main from now until construction ends. Come on down and park on the new blacktop with the crisp white striping. The parking lot at the Concord Food Coop will be open throughout construction on this side of the street.
Next week's work schedule
Next week crews will continue trenching and laying conduit for utility lines. They will also begin to remove curbing and to excavate and install new storm drains in the area from Pitchfork Records to New England Cupcakery. Sidewalks will be open.
