Mega Millions sales were close to $4 million last week alone, and officials expected ticket sales both through iLottery and retailers statewide to continue to rise, approaching tomorrow’s drawing.
Jackpot winners can also choose an annuity option for the total sum of the winning prize across 30 years. The annual annuity increases year over year across the 30 years until, in the final payment, the total amount equals the final prize.
As an example, for the $1.1 billion prize a couple of weeks ago, the payments would have been about $16.5 million in the first year and more than $68 million in the 30th year.
Officials said there had been 31 consecutive Mega Millions drawings without a jackpot winner, dating back to April 14, when a lucky player in New York purchased a $476 million jackpot winning ticket.
Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. Tickets are on sale at more than 1,200 retailers statewide and online at NH iLottery.
