Driver Accused Of Leaving Scene Of Crash After Hitting Pickup Truck In Concord’s South End

The driver of a VW reportedly crashed into a parked pickup truck on South State Street Friday. He was found blocks away on West Street.

CONCORD, NH — Concord police are investigating a possible drunken-driving crash in the South End on Friday.

Just before 1 a.m., police dispatch received a call about a vehicle crashing into a parked vehicle on South State Street between Downing and West streets. The first caller reporting the crash said it woke her up. Other callers reported a man was driving in a black car and reportedly struck a parked pickup truck.

When police arrived, they found the driver about two blocks away, at West and Morton streets, according to scanner chatter. More officers were requested. The Volkswagen he was driving had front-end damage and airbag deployment.

The driver also said he was OK, but fire and rescue teams were asked to check on him. Another officer reported oil leaking all over the street.

According to the fire commander, the driver refused to be taken to the hospital, and they cleared the scene at around 1:15 a.m.

After field sobriety tests, the man was arrested for drunken driving and conduct after an accident charges.

A tow truck was requested to remove the car.
