Businesses Lose Power In Downtown Concord After Lexus Driver Crashes Into Utility Pole
There was darkness for businesses Tuesday night after a driver crashed on Storrs Street. They were cited for negligent driving.
Editor's note: This post has been corrected. The driver was cited, a non-custody arrest, for negligent driving. The driver was also alone in the car during the accident.
CONCORD, NH — A driver was cited for negligent driving after losing control of his Lexus, crashing into a utility pole, and knocking out power to Downtown Concord businesses Tuesday night.
Around 10:45 p.m., an officer downtown was approached by an employee at Tandy’s Top Shelf who reported hearing a loud bang while emptying garbage. Then, the lights around the restaurant’s dumpsters went out, and the employee heard tires screeching, according to scanner chatter. A few seconds later, another officer confirmed a crash on Storrs Street, with a car hitting a curb. Concord fire and rescue teams were requested to the scene as the officer approached the vehicle. The officer at the scene confirmed the Lexus struck a speed sign and a utility pole.

“Just for awareness,” the officer said, “a bunch of businesses down here have no power, and the pole is substantially cracked.”
The driver was a man in his early 30s. He also sustained injuries to his face. Police also spoke to a man in his mid-20s who was a witness. Another officer requested more manpower to gather evidence.

According to scanner chatter, the driver was also given a field sobriety test. Around 11:15 p.m., police said the driver passed the field sobriety test. He was cited for negligent driving.
