Elderly Woman Dies After Driving Into Truck On Route 4: Troopers
New Hampshire State Police: Marlene Bateman, 80, drove her Ford Taurus into a box truck that was backing into a Northwood driveway Friday.
NORTHWOOD, NH — The New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction team was in Northwood Friday investigating a crash on Route 4 after an elderly woman was killed in the accident. Northwood police and fire and rescue teams were sent to the crash scene between a box truck and a Ford Taurus around 6:30 a.m. The truck, according to Sgt. Greg Dube of the state police, was traveling west when it stopped and back to back into a driveway on the southern side of the road.
The Taurus was also driving west and while the box truck was perpendicular in the road, the vehicle crashed into the front passenger side of the truck.
Marlene Bateman, 80, of Nortwood, died as a result of the crash, Dube said. Neither the driver of the truck, a 55-year-old man from Gorham, Maine, nor a passenger in the truck were injured.

"At this time, it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors, however all aspects remain under investigation," Dube stated.
The road was closed for more than four hours during the investigation. Troop A troopers were assisted by Northwood police and fire/EMS.
