Explosive Device False Alarm Sends Concord Cops, Firefighters Downtown

Watch: Police and firefighters were sent to a report of a possible bomb scare — a box, with wires, that was smoking at Capital Plaza.

CONCORD, NH — Police are investigating a bomb scare false alarm on Saturday in Downtown Concord.

Just past 8 p.m., dispatch received a report about a possible explosive device at 2 Capital Plaza. The device was described as a box, with liquid inside and wires hanging out, with smoke coming from it. Dispatch said they were also requesting firefighters to stage.

While officers began to set up a perimeter around the area, dispatch received more information that the device might be outside Margaritas. An officer requested dispatch call the restaurant to see if they had any information.

Officers staged at Odd Fellows and Pleasant Street, North Main and Warren streets, and North State and Warren streets.

Another caller reported to police that there may be a smoke bomb at Capital Plaza and a third caller from a building there confirmed the device's location.

The officer on Pleasant Street was pulled from there and moved to School Street.

“Somebody has already picked it up and touched it prior to our arrival,” one officer said. “It looks like a pasta bottle with some liquid in it.”

At 8:15 p.m., firefighters were sent to examine the box and deemed the situation safe about 10 minutes later.
