Fatal Overdose Of Hockey Coach At NHTI Dorm Under Investigation By State Police

Concord fire and rescue was sent to an OD with cardiac arrest at Strout Hall Tuesday, a dorm leased by the New Hampshire Mountain Kings.

CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire State Police are investigating a fatal overdose and medical incident at NHTI, Concord’s community college on Tuesday, in a dorm used by local hockey team.

Around 10:15 a.m., Concord fire and rescue teams were sent to Strout Hall, a dorm at the school, for an overdose with cardiac arrest. According to Capital Region Fire Dispatch, the caller said the dorm was located on College Drive, but it is located on Sand Road, another street on the campus. The dispatcher entered a rapid SOS call prompt, which corrected the address.

The call originally came in as a man in his 40s but NHTI security spoke with dispatch and said the call involved a teenager.

“The ages don’t match,” dispatch told firefighters heading to the scene.

Just before 10:30 a.m., firefighters confirmed the case was code gray and New Hampshire State Police were at the scene.

The dorm is being leased out to the New Hampshire Mountain Kings hockey team based out of the Tri Town Arena in Hooksett. Several sources reported to Patch the name of the coach but it could not be independently verified before post time.

Chris Brown, the managing member of the team, said the incident involved a coach and the case was under investigation. He declined comment until the investigation was completed. Brown said the health, safety, and wellbeing of the students and players were not at risk during the incident.

Amber Gavriluk, the college’s director of marketing and communications, confirmed the team had leased the hall since Fall 2023. She did not return a request for comment about how much the team was paying NHTI for the use of the dorms.

Tyler Dumont, the public information officer for state police, said the investigation into the incident was ongoing and offered no comment.

The Mountain Kings, according to the team’s website, is part of the New Hampshire Hockey Club and participates in the North American Hockey League. The team is privately owned and operated and allows players to develop and secure NCAA commitments.

“NAHL athletes are provided the opportunity to develop, learn, train, grow, and succeed while playing for free,” the team’s site said.

Pre-draft camp tryouts were scheduled to start on Wednesday, the website said.
