Home Damaged, 3 Cats Killed During Concord Fire

Update: The cause of a two-alarm fire on Liberty Street is still being investigated. One occupant was treated at the scene.

CONCORD, NH — A home on Liberty Street in Concord suffered significant damage and also took the lives on three cats that were living with five adults in the two-building, according to Concord Fire Chief Dan Andrus. Fire and Rescue teams were sent to the blaze at 109-111 Liberty St., a two-family home constructed in 1900, at just before 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2018. A second alarm was issued about 10 minutes later.

“The first units were on the scene in under four minutes and reported heavy smoke from the 2-1/2 story structure,” Andrus stated. “The first firefighters entering the building encountered heavy fire, which was spreading rapidly due to the building’s construction.”

Units from Allenstown, Boscawen, Bow, Chichester, Pembroke, Hooksett, Hopkinton, and the Penacook Rescue all arrived into the city to help.

“Fire crews worked to knock down the main body of the fire and to open up concealed spaces in walls and in the attic to extinguish hot spots,” Andrus said. “The fire was declared under control at 4:14 p.m.”

Hopkinton, Epsom, Loudon, and Manchester provided coverage during the incident from Concord’s four stations, he noted.
