Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm Blaze In Belmont After Home Explosion, 1 Injured

BELMONT, NH — Firefighters from the Lakes Region battled a 2-alarm house fire in Belmont on Thursday afternoon.

Just after 5 p.m., Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid Association began receiving reports of a home explosion on Sunset Drive in Belmont. Initially, firefighters from Laconia, Tilton-Northfield, and Sanbornton were requested.

Witnesses reported an explosion and flames from the back of the home on a canal near Lake Winnisquam. The first arriving fire commander confirmed there was a well-involved house fire with heavy smoke in the area and immediately requested a second alarm. A few minutes later, an ambulance was requested.

Franklin and Gilford firefighters and Loudon EMTs were also requested to the scene to assist and provide mutual aid around 5:15 p.m. All companies from the Lakes Region, as well as Alton, Barnstead, Gilmanton, and Loudon firefighters, were also requested.

Around 5:30 p.m., a fire commander reported the fire was contained to a 50-foot-by-20-foot area of the single-story home.
