Firefighters, Troopers Care for Dogs After I-89 Crash

NHSP: An elderly Orleans, MA, man fell asleep at the wheel and struck trees in Warner. He and a passenger were transported to the hospital.

CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire State Police are investigating a crash where an elderly man reportedly fell asleep at the wheel on I-89 earlier today sending two to the hospital. According to state police, at just after noon on March 6, 2017, troopers and Hopkinton Fire and Rescue teams were sent to a crash on the southbound side of the highway, where a 2013 Toyota Highlander veered off the road and into some trees in Warner.

The driver – an 81-year-old Orleans, MA, as well as an adult passenger – sustained minor injuries and were transported to Concord Hospital.

“(The driver) told investigating troopers he fell asleep behind the wheel, causing him to drive off the roadway and into the trees,” according to a press statement.

Two dogs were cared for by troopers and firefighters at the scene and then transported to the Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord and Merrimack County on Silk Farm Road in Concord.
