#FITN2024 Turnout Prediction? 410,000, New Hampshire SOS Says

State: 26,162 Granite Staters have requested absentee ballots; NH has 245,873 fewer registered voters than it did in November 2020.

CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire’s secretary of state believes more than 400,000 Granite Staters will vote on Tuesday, with most taking a Republican ballot.

New Hampshire Secretary of State David Scanlan predicted 410,000 voters would cast ballots in the first-in-the-nation presidential primary. He guessed 322,000 voters would cast ballots in the Republican primary while 88,000 would cast ballots in the Democrat primary.

Anna Sventek, the communications director for the department, said 26,162 voters had requested absentee ballots.

As of Jan. 19, 873,357 people in New Hampshire were registered to vote, with “undeclared” voters making up more than 344,000, followed by Republicans at nearly 268,000 and Democrats at more than 261,000.

According to the state’s Party Registration History 1970-2023, the current registrations are 245,873 less than on Nov. 8, 2020, when the state had nearly 1.12 million people registered to vote. When comparing party affiliation, there are 95,047 fewer undeclared, 85,566 fewer Democrats, and 65,260 fewer Republicans. The checklist was purged in November 2022, removing almost 250,000 voters from the rolls.

During the same time period, the population of the state grew from around 1.38 million to 1.4 million people, according to the U.S. Census Quick Facts estimates.
