When officers arrived, the two men, of Hispanic or Middle Eastern descent, had left the area in a silver sedan with Florida plates. Officers checked the area and appeared to find a vehicle, a Chevrolet Impala, matching the description at the Cumberland Farms on Fisherville Road. One of the officers came by, eyed the pair, and then headed back to Dollar General to look at surveillance video.
While at the store, the officer spoke to the clerk who alleged that Lope purchased four pre-paid debit cards, $500 on each, and a couple of other items. He then allegedly attempted to pay for the items with six different credit cards. The clerk alleged that the suspects wanted the numbers keyed in manually rather than swiping the card into the system. The clerked looked at the name on the card and recalled a similar incident in Epsom, the other location that she worked. In that case, she had a similar sale and later, received a call from someone in Texas that the credit card had been a fraudulent card.
The officer returned to Cumbies where another officer was interviewing Hernandez Hernadez who allegedly denied being at the Dollar General store. When it was explained to him that there was video footage of him allegedly in the store with Lope, who was buying the debit cards, “he denied any knowledge of the them.”
While at Cumbies, another subject approached the officers and explained that he was an employee of Sam’s Club and had recognized the two suspects from an incident that took play earlier in the day.
Both men were arrested and held.
