Foster is Now Attorney General
Gov. Maggie Hassan swears in attorney, former state Senator as top cop.
Joseph Foster is now the Attorney General for the state of New Hampshire.
Gov. Maggie Hassan swore in Foster on May 15, in the governor’s chamber, in a short ceremony among family, friends, legal colleagues, and some of the employees of the Department of Justice that he will oversee.
Hassan said she admired the work he had done previously as a lawyer and state Senator.

“He is just a gifted and dedicated member of his community and his family and I’m just so privileged and honored that he’s willing to serve,” she said.
Foster, in front of his mom, wife, and daughters, thanked everyone for coming and said he would continue to do “the people’s work” with Hassan, law enforcement, and other department heads.
