Framingham MA Dirt Bike Rider Thrown From Bike During Ride On Berlin NH Trail; Cited For Speeding

Jacob Shapiro reportedly rode over a bumpy ledge section and was injured after being thrown from the bike on Saturday morning.

BERLIN, NH — New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers were called to a dirt bike crash on Saturday morning in Berlin.

Just after 10:45 a.m., Jacob Shapiro, 23, was the lead rider with a group of three on the Yamaha Connector Trail when he reportedly lost control on a straight section of the trail while riding over a bump ledge section, Conservation Officer Eric Fluette said.

“(Shapiro) was subsequently thrown from his machine and sustained injuries in the crash. Immediate aid was rendered by his riding companions and bystanders (who) came upon the crash,” he said. “A 911 call was made from the scene requesting medical assistance.”

Berlin police, firefighters, and EMS arrived to assist. The fire department used its UTV to take personnel to the scene. Shapiro was then brought to an awaiting ambulance and EMTs took him to Androscoggin Valley Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

“Concluding an on-scene investigation of this crash, conservation officers believe the primary factor in the crash to have been associated with excessive speed for the existing trail conditions,” Fluette said. “Shapiro was issued a summons for operating an OHRV at an unreasonable speed for the existing conditions.”

Fluette said the crash was an opportunity to remind OHRV enthusiasts to operate cautiously throughout the varying terrain present on OHRV trails, especially in the dusty conditions currently prevalent.
