Free Wi-Fi, Stolen Mailboxes, a BB Gun, Drinking, Driving, Don't Mix

Concord Police arrest Taylor Carpentier outside the Penacook Library on an array of charges.

A Concord man is facing multiple charges after being arrested while using the free wi-fi outside the Penacook library on Merrimack Street.

Taylor Carpentier, 20, of Bog Road in Concord, was arrested at 3:36 a.m. on Oct. 11, and charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of drugs, possession of controlled drugs, two counts of receiving stolen property, and an unlawful possession of alcohol charge.

According to an arrest report, an officer on patrol around 3 a.m. on Summer Street in Penacook, keeping an eye out for vehicle break-ins, saw a Ford Explorer parked outside the Penacook library on Merrimack Street.

The officer spoke to the driver, Carpentier, who reportedly stated he was going to his girlfriend’s house in Boscawen but didn’t know the address but knew they she lived near a farm. He allegedly showed signs of intoxication, including smelling like alcohol, having bloodshot, glassy eyes, and slurring. Carpentier reportedly told the officer he was using the free wi-fi in order to contact the woman, stating that he was out of minutes but could still use the Internet on his phone.

While showing the officer the phone, Carpentier then dropped it, and the battery came out on the ground. He got out of the care “very slowly and used the door for support,” the officer alleged.

Another officer and a sergeant arrived as the first officer asked for a license and began discussing with Carpentier what he was doing. He reportedly first stated he was driving from Warner to Boscawen and then later said a friend’s house in Penacook to Boscawen, according to the report. Later, he reportedly said he was coming from Center Harbor. When asked about the inconsistencies, Carpentier allegedly stated that Warner and Center Harbor were practically the same place.

Carpentier agreed to perform field sobriety tests and was arrested.

When asked if he had drugs in the car, Carpentier allegedly told them that there might be marijuana and a pipe in the center console. When asked if there were weapons in the car, Carpentier reportedly stated that there weren’t.

Officers later allegedly found the pipe, a grinder, a baggy of marijuana, a “realistic looking BB gun,” and two mailboxes (one of them from “Peaceful Lane,” on the other side of Penacook).

Another officer traveled to Peaceful Lane to speak to the owner of the one of the mailboxes who stated she had not given Carpentier permission to take her mailbox. The other mailbox owner was reached later and stated the same thing.

Carpentier was held at the Merrimack County House of Corrections and released when he became sober, according to the report.
