Hail to the Chief - A Walker Fund Event

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014 at 7:30 pm

Live Musical Production by In Good Company - FREE

It’s a mid-term election year and a professor at a local college is teaching his class about presidential election campaigns.

Suddenly a group of people bursts into the room singing and challenges the professor not to tell his students about presidential campaigns, but to sing the campaign songs that roused a nation. A heated argument ensues resulting in a sing-off between the two groups, judged by the audience. In the end, it doesn’t really matter who wins. Both sides agree that whether you ride the donkey or the elephant, “it’s the same old merry-go-round.”

Before radio, TV and the internet, songs were the most effective way for candidates to spread their message. The show includes a colorful assortment of songs from Washington to JFK, some set to traditional melodies and others to the music of Irving Berlin. Hail to the Chief is more than a history lesson – it’s a refreshing antidote to today’s negative campaigns.

In Good Company is supported in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
