CONCORD, NH — The Bumblebees 8U Softball Team, the central New Hampshire club, which has won both the New Hampshire and New England Babe Ruth championships, are heading to Florida for the world series later this month — but they need $35,000 to get there.

The fundraising and sponsorship coordinator for the team has set up a GoFundMe.com effort, Bumblebees Softball 8U Softball World Series website, to raise money. The world series will be held in Jensen, Beach, FL, between July 26 and Aug. 4.

As of Thursday, nearly $7,000 toward the goal has been raised from more than 80 donations.

“The team's unprecedented success this season has led to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Traci Milbourne, the organizer of the effort, said. “This group of young girls has battled competitively all season while enduring injuries and whatever the weather has thrown at them, including lots of rain and heat, and they've finished their tournament play with an undefeated record of 28-0 on the season. An amazing accomplishment.”

She said the money would be used for airfare, hotel rooms, meals, gate fees, and jerseys for the team's 8- and 9-year-old girls.

Contributions are also tax deductible (the team’s Tax ID is posted online). If you do not make donations online and still want to help, a “fill the helmet” drive will be held at the Shaw’s Supermarket on Fort Eddy Road in Concord from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 9.

“All gifts, regardless of size, will help make this dream a reality,” Milbourne said.
