Icy Roads Overnight, Snow Friday Morning Cause Crashes Around NH

Freezing rain overnight and snow in the morning caused accidents and other issues on New Hampshire's Interstates and roadways on Friday.

CONCORD, NH — The first significant snowstorm of the 2022-2023 fall-winter season, varying storm tracks, school cancelations, and crashes were reported all around the state on Friday.

Accident reports began during the early morning hours, including a rollover crash on Hooksett Road in Hooksett around 1:15 a.m. Police and firefighters found the vehicle on its side. The driver was ejected from the vehicle, fire command said. Command requested a paramedic from Tri-Town Ambulance to the crash, but the request was canceled after a second Hooksett ambulance arrived. Later, the fire commander requested an intercept before bringing the driver to Elliot Hospital in Manchester.

Later, a flurry of crashes was reported around the state.

Around 2 a.m. in Deerfield, fire and rescue teams reported a single-vehicle crash with a head injury on Nottingham and North roads.

In Epping, a single-vehicle crash was reported, with one patient receiving a head injury around 4 a.m. on Prescott Road.

In Rollinsford, around 5 a.m. on Rollins Road, a vehicle crashed and rolled into a nearby stream. The vehicle was on its roof and was partially submerged.

New Hampshire State Police were sent to a spinout on Interstate 89 South in Hopkinton.

A pedestrian was struck on Chase Road in Londonderry, which shut down the road. At Hovey Road in Londonderry, another crash was reported involving a trolley car.

On Interstate 93 north in Sanbornton, a car crashed and entrapped the driver inside. In Swanzey, a multi-vehicle crash with entrapment was reported. On Main Street and Canterbury Road in Chichester, another crash with injury was reported Friday morning.

Parts of Route 101 west and the Everett Turnpike north were closed due to crashes, while one lane of Interstate 89 north was closed for a box truck crash in Hopkinton.

In and around Concord, several crashes were reported, including Little Pond Road, Lake View Drive, and Interstate 93.

According to reports online, hundreds of schools and educational programs also canceled classes for Friday.

Snow To Continue

The National Weather Service posted its latest snowfall forecast around 6 a.m. on Twitter.

The storm track appeared to be pushing slightly north. Forecasters warned that strong winds would impact the Seacoast and power outages would be expected on Friday and Saturday.

In Concord and the capital region, anywhere between 4 and 8 inches were expected by the end of the day, with another 2 inches on Saturday.

In Nashua and western and central Hillsborough County and western Rockingham County, about 2 inches of snow is expected with freezing rain and slippery roads both Friday and Saturday.

On the Seacoast, anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected on Saturday by the end of the day. Wind gusts, however, will reach as high as 40 mph on both Friday and Saturday.

Limited Electrical Outages

According to the state’s four largest utility companies, there were nearly no outages as of 9 a.m.

New Hampshire Electric Coop reported 32 customers were without power in Gilmanton.
