IMAGES: Concord Fire Department Holds Annual Awards Ceremony

Team members, residents awarded for contributions to community service, safety.

The Concord Fire Department held its annual awards ceremony last week at the Concord City Auditorium, honoring citizens and department employees recognized several citizens and department members for their contributions to community safety.

Here is a list of the receipients: 

  • Jonathan Dorsey of the Concord Family YMCA was recognized for rescuing a drowning victim.
  • Suzanne Prentiss of Concord Hospital and Michael Dodge and Kyle Levesque of CarePlus Ambulance were recognized for their work in treating patients of a serious car accident.
  • Battalion Chief Richard Whitney received an award for his longstanding commitment to leading community service activities.
  • Firefighters Roman Bastek, James Duckworth, and Jonathan Sinclair were honored for their work with the Concord Fire Department Explorer Post which currently serves 18 young persons interested in fire and emergency services careers.
  • Deputy Chief Sean Toomey received a meritorious service award for his exceptional work in support of a neighboring fire department that had experienced a line of duty death.
  • Firefighter Philip J. Tirrell, Jr. was named the 2013 Firefighter of the Year. Firefighter Tirrell is a 17 year member of the department who has received numerous awards for his lifesaving work and who has served his country through two tours of duty in Iraq.

The evening also included the recognition of several members for their years of service. Mayor Jim Bouley was the keynote speaker and he shared some letters from citizens regarding the department’s work, as well as complimenting department members for their work to support training and for saving the city thousands of dollars by performing renovations at fire stations.
