Inmate Escapes from Concord Corrections Facility

Michael James Cayton went missing on Monday morning.

Authorities are searching for an inmate who walked away from a minimum security facility in Concord early this morning.

Michael James Cayton, 24, of Concord, was not in his bunk at the Corrections Transitional Work Center in Concord when corrections officers conducted a population count at 1 a.m. Monday, according to a press release. Officers searched the building without success and put him on escape status at 2 a.m.

Cayton is described as 5'7", 140 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He has tattoos on his left forearm, upper left arm, chest, abdomen, back, neck and right forearm.
 
He is serving multiple concurrent sentences, including a sentence of 2-1/2 to 7 years for witness tampering out of Merrimack County Superior Court; sentences of 1 to 7 years for two convictions of criminal mischief and one conviction of felon in possession of a weapon; a sentence of 1 to 6 years for burglary from Grafton County Superior Court; and a sentence for two convictions of sale, possession, and manufacturing of drugs (heroin) from Merrimack County Superior Court. 
 
Cayton first entered the New Hampshire State Prison on Oct. 31, 2008 for the criminal mischief convictions. He was paroled on Oct. 15, 2009, but returned on a parole violation on April 13, 2010. He began serving his witness tampering conviction on Sept. 2, 2010. His parole eligibility date is Dec. 29, 2012.
 
The New Hampshire Department of Corrections Investigations Bureau and the New Hampshire State Police are investigating. Anyone with information on Cayton's whereabouts is asked to call their local law enforcement agency or the New Hampshire State Prison at (603) 271-1801.
