CONCORD, NH — A strap on a tractor-trailer truck snapping caused a load of timber to fall off the bed of a trailer and damaged a guardrail Tuesday, according to New Hampshire State Police. Around 12:15 p.m., troopers were sent to the Ext 12 North onramp of Interstate 93 in Concord upon hearing a 2016 Peterbilt truck lost its load. The driver, a 46-year-old man from Dublin, who has not been charged, said he was merging onto the highway when the wood on the flatbed shifted, according to Sgt. Maurice Sampson of Troop D.

"As a result, a strap broke, causing numerous large pieces of timber to spill out onto the roadway of the onramp," he said. "Several feet of guardrail was heavily damaged as a result of the timber striking it."

The onramp was shut down for more than an hour so the pieces of timber could be removed from the roadway. The initial investigation by troopers, Sampson said, "indicated that the load was not secured properly."

State police were assisted by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
