Jury Deliberating in St. Paul's School Rape Case

Former student Owen Labrie of Vermont is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at the school in 2014.

The question of whether or not a former St. Paul’s School student raped a fellow student last year is in the hands of the jury, according to WMUR-TV.

Closing arguments were made by prosecuting attorney Joseph Cherniske and defense attorney J.W. Carney as to whether or not Owen Labrie, 19, of Tunbridge, VT, sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl at the school in May 2014. He faces a number of counts including aggravated felonious sexual assault.

Carney told jurors on Aug. 27, 2015, that his client was not a saint but a teenager, and if they had any doubt in their minds about the case, they needed to return a not guilty verdict.

Cherniske countered that the evidence showed that Labrie had a plan for his Senior Salute, the sex ritual game at the school where upperclassmen targeted younger female classmates before graduation, and he carried out that plan, targeting and assaulting the girl.

Labrie took the stand in his own defense yesterday. He was the only witness for the defense.
