Kimball Wildlife Forest Named Outstanding Community Tree Farm
The Gilford forest wins the honor for 2019 and will hold a demonstration, walking tour, and cookout on Oct. 5.

CONCORD, NH — A 240-acre forest in the Lakes Region has been named 2019's Outstanding Community Tree Farm of the Year for the state of New Hampshire. The Kimball Wildlife Forest, owned and operated by the town of Gilford, received the honor this year and is hosting an event Saturday to celebrate the designation. The town has owned the forest since the early-1980s.
The land, previously a part of the estate of Benjamin Kimball, the president of the Boston and Main Railroad, has been preserved for wildlife study and management ever since.
The New Hampshire Tree Farm Committee, in honoring the forest, said Gilford "has been a model for how involved citizens, town officials and natural resource professionals can work together to manage a property for multiple objectives, including wildlife, timber, recreation, research, education and more."
