Labrie's Victim's Parents Sue St. Paul's School

The girl's family has hired Chuck Douglas and filed a negligence and emotional distress lawsuit; the school says the suit is without merit.

CONCORD, NH - The parents of a former St. Paul’s School student who was sexually assaulted by Owen Labrie, another prep school student, are suing the school, according to a report on New Hampshire Public Radio.

The family has hired former Superior Court Judge and Congressman Chuck Douglas of Douglas, Leonard & Garvey to sue for negligence and emotional distress and is requesting $75,000 in damages in U.S. District Court. The school issued a statement stating that the lawsuit is without merit, according to the report.

Labrie was arrested by Concord Police in July 2014, after a 15-year-old freshman at the school alleged that she was raped in late May after being lured to a building on the campus during the annual “senior salute” sexcapades at the school. The arrest resulted in Harvard University dropping Labrie from his enrollment at the school.

The court proceedings in 2015 riveted media outlets that offered wall-to-wall coverage of the trial. Labrie was ultimately found guilty of misdemeanor sexual assault – statutory rape – but the jury also found him guilty of a computer sex crime – for using Facebook to lure the girl – which requires him to register as a sex offender. He was sentenced to a year in prison but has been appealing the sentence.

Earlier this year, after getting caught violating curfew, which started after a chance encounter with a reporter from Vice.com on a MBTA subway train, he was sent to prison, but has since been released with an ankle bracelet, according to media reports.
