There were several other vehicles involved that had sustained heavy damage. The responding troopers, along with the assistance of the New London and Sutton police departments, as well as Sutton and New London Fire and Rescue teams, checked on all the operators and passengers of the vehicles involved. Several individuals were transported to local area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The initial investigation, according to state police, with the assistance of witnesses, indicated that the Kia was traveling “at a high rate of speed and in a very aggressive manner in the high speed lane.” Another vehicle was traveling in the travel lane and had begun to change lanes into the high speed lane and did not see the Kia. The Kia reportedly sideswiped that vehicle causing the Kia to hit the left guardrail at which point the Kia went airborne and landed on the rear of a third vehicle before coming to a rest on the roof and sliding several hundred feet down the Interstate, according to police.
