Last Day of March Storm: Snow Totals Upgraded for NH

Breaking: Between 8 and 18 inches of snow expected for southern New Hampshire through Saturday afternoon.

GREY, ME — A hazardous weather outlook has been issued by the National Weather Service for the state of New Hampshire as another round of wintry precipitation is expected to hit the southern part of the state starting tomorrow. An updated alert was issued at on March 31, 2017.

Previously, 4 to 12 inches of snow was expected through Saturday afternoon; forecasters — and this is not a joke — have upgraded those accumulations to 8 to 12 inches, and up to 18 inches in some Hillsborough County communities, according to the latest weather map posted this morning.

Forecasters warned, however, that there “remains a considerable amount of uncertainty in snow amounts even with the storm beginning Friday morning for portions of the forecast area,” according to the alert.

“The northward and eastward extent of heavy snowfall is still uncertain at this time due to continued uncertainties in storm track,” according to the alert. “Also, warm air aloft may work in for a time allowing for mixing with sleet across southern New Hampshire and southernmost Maine. These factors will have fairly large ramifications for either higher or lower snow totals than forecast.”

The Seacoast communities of Portsmouth, Hampton, and North Hampton, which were previously hanging steady at 4 to 6 inches, are now expected to get up to 12 inches of snow, just like most of the rest of the central and southern parts of the state (Amherst, Bedford, Concord, Londonderry, Merrimack, Milford, Nashua, Salem, and Windham).

The storm is already starting to fall — in tiny flakes — in the western and central parts of the Granite State.

Expect slippery roads and low visibility, since the snow will be heavy and wet. Potential power outages are expected in the southern part of the state with wind gusts as high as 20 mph.

Brace yourself though – the NWS announced yesterday that more storms may possibly be coming to the state again on Tuesday and Thursday.
