The League of NH Craftsmen Names New Executive Director
Miriam Carter, the interim director since January, has been appointed to lead the state's juried craft and arts org.

CONCORD, NH — The Board of Trustees of the League of NH Craftsmen is pleased to announce the appointment of Miriam Carter to the position of executive director of the League, according to a press statement. Carter has served as the League’s Interim Executive Director since January 2017, and has been a self-employed fiber artist for nearly 30 years.
Carter is only the second executive director in the League’s history that is a working craftsperson and juried member of the League.
“Miriam brings fresh ideas and initiatives to the League, re-energizing the board, membership, staff and volunteers who give so much of their time promoting the work of our talented craftspeople, and educating the public on the beauty and value of fine hand-made American crafts," said Board of Trustees President Judith Raskin. "Miriam knows first-hand the process of creating craft and the life of a working craftsperson. Coupled with her innate understanding of nonprofit management, she is the perfect fit for the position.”

Carter is nationally recognized as one of the first feltmakers on the national juried craft show circuit. She is known for the refined felting technique she uses to create hand felted hats, scarves, shawls, tunics, and jackets.
During the past three years, Carter has served on the League’s Fair Committee. More recently, she served on the of the Board of Trustees as the chair of the Juried Members Advisory Board, which represents the 750 juried members of the organization.

The League of NH Craftsmen is a non-profit, craft education organization – one of the oldest craft organizations in the country. Its mission is to encourage, nurture and promote the creation, use and preservation of fine contemporary and traditional craft through the inspiration and education of artists and the broader community. The League represents the signature of excellence in fine craft, through the work of its juried members, and its rigorous standards for self-expression, vision, and quality craftsmanship.
The League’s annual Craftsmen’s Fair, which runs Aug. 5, to Aug. 13, 2017, at the Mount Sunapee Resort in Newbury, is the oldest craft fair in the country. This is the 84th continuous year of the Fair, and the 56th year at Mount Sunapee. The League has eight fine craft galleries throughout New Hampshire, as well as an exhibition gallery and a Permanent Collection Museum at its headquarters in the SMILE building in Concord. The League of NH Craftsmen is supported in part by a grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts.
