LETTER: Bonner Family Says, 'Thank You'

The NBA Three-Point Contest was an incredible experience for Matt and our whole family.

By Luke Bonner

On Saturday, Feb. 16, my brother, Matt Bonner, competed in the NBA Three-Point Contest.

It was an incredible experience for Matt and our whole family. We’ve all been proud to follow Matt’s career throughout the years—from the Concord Rec League, to the Concord Boys & Girls Club, to Concord High School, to the University of Florida, to the NBA. Seeing him participate in the Three-Point Shootout during NBA All-Star Weekend was surreal.

Throughout the years, my brother, my sister and I have been fortunate to receive tremendous support from everyone in New Hampshire. As such, it was great to see so many people attend the Three-Point Contest viewing party that Red River Theatres hosted.

I would like to express my gratitude to all who helped make the viewing party possible. Red River Theatres employees Shelly Hudson, Angie Lane, and Jemi Broussard worked swiftly to help pull this event together, and broadcast the shootout on the big screen of their Lincoln Theater. To everyone who attended this event, your support means a lot to Matt and my family.

Other members of the community contributed to enhance this event as well. Constantly Pizza went above and beyond, ensuring that all attendees had ample pizza to enjoy during the event. WKXL generously provided raffle and trivia prizes. New Hampshire t-shirt company, The Mountain Corporation, donated special edition “Red Mamba” t-shirts, and all proceeds went directly to the Rock On Foundation.

The Rock On Foundation is a nonprofit I recently founded with Matt (Bonner), Kim Murdoch, Maureen Scura, Chris Ryan, and Travis York. Rock On serves to enrich the quality of life in communities by supporting athletic, artistic, and scholastic initiatives. As such, we’ll be creating new scholarship programs for students involved with and interested in athletics and/or the arts (audio, visual, literary, or performance). These scholarships will be funded by Rock On’s unique events that also serve to inspire and enhance its host communities. Additionally, Rock On will distribute funds to existing nonprofits in the community who operate artistic and/or athletic programs and are in need of aid.

The Rock On Foundation executive board stepped up on short notice to make certain that the viewing party was a success. Kim Murdoch, Chris Ryan, and Maureen Scura’s efforts were instrumental in coordinating this event and handling the on-site logistics.

Finally, I’d like to thank Matt for personally underwriting this event and for taking us all along for the ride.

Sincerely,

Luke Bonner
