BANGOR, ME — A number of New Hampshire nonprofits, including ones in Concord and Nashua, received grants in December 2021 and into the future, too.

Bangor Savings Bank, as part of its foundation, is making a commitment to give away $470,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations in both Maine and New Hampshire this year and next. Around $247,000 was granted in December with another $222,000 will be distributed via multi-year grants in the future.

Most of the money and donations were made to Maine organizations where the bulk of the bank’s business is done. However, a number of New Hampshire orgs received donations.

Best Buddies in New Hampshire is splitting about $10,000 with the Maine organization. The money, the company said, will be used to “empower their special abilities by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society.”

The Friendly Kitchen in Concord, which has been serving meals to those in need for a number of decades, will be receiving $7,000.

Girls Inc. of New Hampshire will receive $5,500 for work in Hillsborough County while the Front Door Agency in Nashua is also receiving $5,500. NHTI, Concord’s community college, will also receive a $5,500 grant.

“Supporting the communities in which we live and work is more important now than ever,” Bob Montgomery-Rice, the president and CEO of Bangor Savings Bank, said. “Through the unique work of each of these nonprofit organizations, they contribute to the strength and health in moving our communities forward. Our grant recipients’ commitment to improving the quality of life for those who need it most — be it through the arts, the outdoors, food security, or safety — is critical to building on the success of our communities across Northern New England.”

The bank has locations in Amherst, Colebrook, Concord, and Portsmouth.
