Maine Woman Dies In Pickup Truck Crash On New Hampshire's I-89

CONCORD, NH — A Maine woman died Tuesday after driving a pickup truck off a New Hampshire Interstate and crashing into a tree.

At just before noon, New Hampshire State Police were called to a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 89 north near Mile Marker 24 in Sutton. When they arrived, they found a Ford F-250 pickup truck that had driven off the Interstate to the left and then into the median, according to Lt. Chad Lavoie of Troop D.

"Based upon the initial investigation, the vehicle was travelling northbound in the left lane when (it) drifted off the roadway to the left side into the median," he said. "The vehicle then collided with a tree on the driver's side."

The driver, Sarah E. Grier, 64, of Woodland, ME, sustained fatal injuries during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger suffered seriously bodily injuries and was medflighted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She remains in critical condition, Lavoie said.

I-89 was shut down for several hours during the incident.

State troopers were assisted by Sutton police and fire and rescue, Warner fire and rescue, New London fire and EMTs, DHART, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

"At this time all aspects of this crash remain under investigation," Lavoie said.
