Man Charged with Assaulting Girlfriend

Concord Police allege that Jesse John Deflorio pushed his girlfriend during a fight about a trip.

A local man, with a number of arrests under his belt, was held without bail after allegedly assaulting a woman in front of her child.

Jesse John Deflorio, 21, of Concord, was arrested at 8:50 a.m. on May 13, on two counts of simple assault and an obstructing report of a crime or injury charge.

According to a court affidavit and arrest report, officers were sent to an apartment on Federal Street for a domestic incident. A woman, who was sitting at the top of the stairs crying, stated that her boyfriend, Deflorio, allegedly assaulted her.

The two, she said, were arguing about a trip she had to take out of state, down south, to visit her family, and when she left the room, he allegedly blocked her way and pinned her against a way. She tried to get past him but he was allegedly pushing her against the wall, making it hard for her to breathe. She reportedly bit him to get him to let go of her.

Deflorio allegedly became “enraged” and threw his Play Station 3 system onto the floor. When she went to pick it up, he allegedly pushed her, causing her to trip backward, cascading over a table and chair where her 2-year-old was siting.

The woman went to get her cellphone to call police and Deflorio allegedly stated, “you’re not going to call them on me,” and attempted to take the phone away from her. While holding onto the phone, Deflorio allegedly pulled the woman across the room and out the front door. Deflorio then reportedly left with both of their cellphones.

“(The woman) said that Jesse is very controlling,” the reporting officer stated. “She said that she is not allowed to leave the apartment without him and that she is not allowed to have any money.”

The woman alleged that Deflorio was prone to have “fits of jealous rage” and claimed to have post-traumatic stress syndrome.

The reporting officer put a 12-hour hold on Deflorio and had dispatch call both phones while another officer helped the woman find services through the crisis center hotline.

Deflorio later answered one of the cellphones and came to the station about 15 minutes later and was arrested.

The officer asked Deflorio if he wanted to tell his side of the situation and he said yes, according to the arrest report.

According to Deflorio, the two were discussing family matters but she didn’t want to finish the conversation. When she walked away, he allegedly admitted to standing in the hallway so she couldn’t get by him. He reportedly claimed that he knocked down the PS3 by mistake and when she went to pick it up, he thought she was going to knock the television over, so he pushed her away, he allegedly stated. When she went to call the cops, he allegedly admitted to grabbing the phone and stated, “I know that it was wrong what I did … I took her phone so she couldn’t call the cops. This is a family matter that we need to deal with and not the cops.”

Since Deflorio was out on probation from other charges, he was held without bail and arraigned on May 14.

Previously, he has been arrested for a bench warrant, driving revocation, obstructing report of a crime or injury, criminal mischief (vandalism), and default or breach of bail conditions, and unlawful possession of alcohol.
