After Windows Were Smashed, A Melee Erupts In Concord’s South End

Concord police were sent to Thorndike Street for a report of smashed windows, juveniles fighting, and kids fleeing on foot and by bike.

CONCORD, NH — Concord police are investigating a fight involving at least a half-dozen juveniles and young adults in the South End on Tuesday night.

Just before 6:30 p.m., several officers were sent to Thorndike Street for a report of young people in the area and a window being smashed. One reportedly had a baseball bat. A second call came in about a minute later, with a witness reporting a fight breaking out.

“Apparently, people are now fighting,” one dispatcher said. “Seven people … there’s a knife involved as well. Someone just got hit. I’ll start more units.”

More officers were sent to the intersection of Thorndike and Pierce streets while several juveniles and young adults scattered in an easterly direction, on foot and by bike.

The first officer reported “a large crowd” and “a lot of yelling and screaming” near the Concord Community Arts Center. The officer stated three people who rode bikes from the scene toward downtown were the suspects involved in the incident.

Other officers began searching the area, attempting to find the suspects.

The juveniles and young adults initially questioned by police ranged in age from 14 to 17. Officers learned that two vehicle windows were smashed with a rock during the incident.

Several parents and guardians were requested to the scene to pick up their children.

Around 7:30 p.m., officers began canvassing the area, searching for homes with security cameras that may have recorded the incident or the young adults and juveniles fleeing the scene. Other officers went to Eastern Avenue on the Concord Heights to try and track down or question others who may have seen the incident or were involved.
