Last Friday night, a new community art project called Mosaic 250 (more information about the project here) was introduced at the Concord 250 kick off event. Sponsor Byron Champlin of Lincoln Financial Group placed the first piece – a piece of red glass on a drawing of a Concord Coach, followed by several community members placing their own pieces of mosaic glass on the Concord/NH themed artwork, created by artist Lizz Van Saun of Kast Hill Studios. The following morning, we brought Mosaic 250 to the Concord Arts Market where even more community members were able to participate.
So far, the project has been received with excitement and enthusiasm. Members of the community are delighted to contribute to the gift of art that will be presented to the City of Concord for its 250th Anniversary next year.
The finished product will consist of 4 panels, 3ft x 4ft in size, each with different scenes that are reflective of Concord and New Hampshire. The current panel we are working on includes a Concord Coach, a White Birch Tree, a White Tailed Deer and pumpkins, set against a background of mountains. Other imagery will include the Karner Blue Butterfly, Purple Finch, State House Dome and an Abenaki Indian. The panels will be installed publicly in Downtown Concord for all to enjoy.
