The accident was in the same area where Tyler Shaw, 20, of Concord was killed in April 2018, after a collision where the other operator, Joseph Leonard Jr. of Derry, was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Leonard previously had been charged DUI in Manchester in October 2010.

Leonard pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and aggravated DUI charges in October 2019. He was sentenced to a mandatory six-year term, potentially up to 12 years, on the negligent homicide charge, and mandatory three years on the DUI charge, potentially up to seven years. Leonard was also fined $1,240.

Lizabeth Shaw, the executrix of Tyler Shaw’s estate, later filed a lawsuit against West Lebanon Nissan in December 2019. The matter was closed in May 2020, according to superior court records.

Gov. Chris Sununu earlier this year signed Tyler Shaw’s law, a bill creating enhanced penalties for repeat drunk drivers, into law.
