National Day Of Prayer Event Held In Concord

Watch: Residents pray for businesses, workers, their neighbors, and the state of New Hampshire in Eagle Square.

CONCORD, NH — Thirteen communities in New Hampshire are participating in National Day of Prayer events in order to come together to worship and meditate. Events were held in Concord and Rochester around lunchtime today. Other events tonight will be held in Derry, Hooksett, Manchester, Meredith, Merrimack, Milford, Nashua, North Conway, Plaistow, Portsmouth, and Stratham.

Worshippers in Concord prayed for the friends and neighbors, their communities, and the state, in general.

The National Day of Prayer organization is requesting that people of faith during the month of May focus their prayers in four ways: To the country, for love, for “centers of influence” – like government and the military, and for worshippers to become a “catalytic spiritual movement across America.”

At the event in Concord on May 2, 2019, in Eagle Square, Karen Sweeting prayed for businesses and workers, calling on worshippers to follow the teachings of the Bible by proselytizing to others and honoring Sunday as a day of rest.

“Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous,” she said, quoting Psalm. “Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.”

Scott Spiewak, the state coordinator for the National Day of Prayer, a self-described “street preacher,” said it was his experience that there were so many people in New Hampshire who knew Jesus Christ that they should speak to everyone about his love – whether one-on-one or while waiting in line at a grocery store.

“The situations are getting worse,” he said. “People who aren’t going to church, for whatever reason, aren’t getting the personal breakthroughs that they need. So, something’s got to shift and it’s up to us. We get to take this love and give it away. It’s the greatest thing ever.”
