May 14-21, 2018 is National Infrastructure Week and Concord General Services is participating to promote the importance of investing in infrastructure. Demand for resources is increasing, while infrastructure is aging. The future won’t wait. It is #TimeToBuild better infrastructure for our country.
Infrastructure is vital to providing communities with basic resources, such as water, sewer, roads, bridges, railways, airports, energy, and broadband. Infrastructure is the foundation of public safety, jobs, quality of life, and even national security – yet, the nation’s infrastructures in transportation, energy, water, and communication are in need of increased funding for improved maintenance and system upgrades to meet existing and future needs.
Every four years, the American Society of Civil Engineers issues an Infrastructure Report Card for America that represents the condition and performance of American infrastructure in the form of a school report card – assigning letter grades based on physical conditions and needs for improvement. In 2017, America scored a D+. Grades are based on the conditions, funding, innovation, and maintenance of several infrastructure categories. America’s D+ grade means infrastructure is in poor to fair condition, with many systems approaching the end of their service life. New Hampshire scored a C- grade, demonstrating that systems are in fair to good condition with some elements showing signs of deficiencies.

In Concord, maintaining infrastructure is something Concord General Services takes very seriously. “We’ve come to expect these resources in our daily lives,” states Chip Chesley, Director of Concord General Services. “Infrastructure investment has transformed our Main Street and continues to now fund our local neighborhood streets with paving initiatives.” The City of Concord also invests in water system upgrades, currently with the water main replacement project near Concord High School to upgrade the water mains on Warren Street (from S. Fruit St. to Liberty St.), N. Fruit Street (from Pleasant St. to School St.), and Kensington Road (from Pleasant St. to School St.). The City continues to invest in the community’s infrastructure to provide the valuable resources needed for residents, businesses, and even commuters to thrive.
Concord General Services encourages everyone to remember the importance of infrastructure by supporting investment to keep Concord on course as a leader and collaborating with state and federal government to support our nation’s communities. It is #TimeToBuild. Visit www.infrastructureweek.org for more information.
