New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office​: Beware Of Romance Scams

Red flags to watch for include common signs someone may be trying to deceive you online like requesting money or claiming urgent situations.

CONCORD, NH — Attorney General John M. Formella warns that with Valentine’s Day fast approaching, New Hampshire residents are reminded to be cautious about online interactions.

The latest edition of our NH Consumer Insight newsletter focuses on the growing threat of romance scams, which exploit people’s emotions and trust for financial gain.

“Romance scams continue to be a major concern, especially during this time of year,” Formella said. “Scammers prey on vulnerable individuals, often using fake personas and emotional manipulation to steal money or personal information. We want to help New Hampshire residents stay safe and avoid falling victim to these deceptive schemes.”
