New Hampshire Lottery Players Kick-Off World Cup With More Than $10 Million in Wagers

Granite Staters have placed more than 400,000 bets on this year's tournament

Concord, NH – This year’s FIFA World Cup is projected to be one of the largest sports betting events in U.S. history, and New Hampshire Lottery players are just getting started. With about two-thirds of the matches played, New Hampshire Lottery players have placed more than 400,000 bets totaling more than $10 million.

“The opportunity to bet on the World Cup only comes around once every four years, and this year matches are being played right in our backyard. Our players are relishing the opportunity with a fast and furious start, just like our U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team,” said Charlie McIntyre, Executive Director, New Hampshire Lottery. “We still have more than a third of the tournament left with some of the most exciting games still to come in the knockout round, offering New Hampshire Lottery players plenty of chances to get in on the action. Best of all, each time our players support their favorite team with a wager, they help drive our mission to support public education in New Hampshire.”

The U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team plays its first knockout round match against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday, July 1, at 8 PM. The betting favorites to win the 2026 World Cup have been France, Spain, Argentina and England. Scotland has become a local fan favorite with its fan base, dubbed the Tartan Army, descending on Boston and Gillette Stadium for the team’s match against Morocco—which was New Hampshire’s fourth-most-bet game.

“With the knockout round underway, we would anticipate World Cup betting to continue building momentum in New Hampshire right through the final on July 19,” McIntyre added. “Here’s hoping our players will have the chance to bet on the U.S. team in the championship match!”
