New Hampshire State Prison for Men Gets New Warden

Michael Zenk of Ohio succeeds Warden Richard Gerry who retired from state service in July 2015.

CONCORD, NH - Michael A. Zenk of Lyons, OH, has been confirmed by Gov. Maggie Hassan, D-Exeter, and the Executive Council to be the new warden of the New Hampshire State Prison for Men in Concord, according to Jeffrey Lyons of the New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner

Zenk was selected following a nationwide search and offers 36 years of experience in various aspects of the criminal justice system.

Since 2012, Zenk has been the Deputy Court Administrator of the Toledo OH Municipal Court. Prior to this he worked as Superintendent of the New Castle, Indiana Correctional Facility and Warden of the Moshannon Valley Correctional Center in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. From 1986 until 2007, he worked an array of leadership positions with the U.S. Bureau of Prisons including Warden of the U.S. Penitentiary in Atlanta, GA, warden of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, NY, and Warden of the Federal Correctional Institution of Allenwood, PA. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University.

Commissioner William L. Wrenn said in a statement, “I believe Mr. Zenk is an excellent candidate for this position. He displays a high level of intelligence, a good grasp on common sense, and excellent judgment. He has a clear understanding of the significant role of a warden of a prison facility. With his extensive work experience, highly developed skills and abilities, and impeccable character, I believe he certainly possesses those qualities that we were looking to find.”

Zenk succeeds Warden Richard M. Gerry who retired from state service in July 2015 after eight years as Warden at the Concord facility. He will be sworn in to begin his duties on a date to be announced later.
