NH Cops: Please Clear Off Your Vehicles
Or, risk a negligent driving charge, per state law.
HOOKSETT, NH — Police are reminding drivers, again, that they need to properly remove all snow from vehicles after a snowstorm before driving. Hooksett Police issued a statement on Feb. 12, 2018, noting numerous examples of improper clearing of snow from vehicles. The department has issued charges against six commuters for negligent driving due to not having their vehicles clear because it endangers others, police noted.
“We understand you may have somewhere to be but not cleaning your vehicle properly could lead to ticket for negligent driving,” the press statement noted. “Please make time to take a minute and fully clean off your vehicle, it may save you or someone from being in an accident or receiving a ticket.”
NH RSA 265:79-b Negligent Driving states, “Whoever upon any way drives a vehicle negligently or causes a vehicle to be driven negligently, as defined in RSA 626:2, II(d), or in a manner that endangers or is likely to endanger any person or property shall be guilty of a violation and shall be fined not less than $250 nor more than $500 for a first offense and not less than $500 nor more than $1,000 for a second or subsequent offense.”
