NH Sex Offender Arrested for DWI After Crash in Tilton

TILTON, NH — A Pittsfield man was arrested this morning for aggravated driving while intoxicated after allegedly crashing into another vehicle and injuring two others, according to New Hampshire State Police. Brian S. Gage, 33, of Pittsfield, was arrested on May 8, 2017, after Tilton Police and Fire and Rescue teams were sent to Laconia Road/Route 3 at around 10 a.m. for a report of a two-vehicle crash. Gage, a registered sex offender with a long criminal history, was allegedly driving a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound on the road when he reportedly crossed over the double yellow line and into the path of a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer that was driving south, according to Sgt. Steven Wheeler of the NHSP.

As a result of the crash, Gage, the driver of the Trailblazer and a passenger, a man and woman in their 50s from Sanbornton, all suffered life threatening injuries. Gage was transported to Lakes Region General Hospital and then medflighted to Maine Medical Center in Portland. The other two were also transported to Lakes Region while the passenger was medflighted later to Mass. General Hospital in Boston. Gage was later charged.

At this time, Wheeler noted, the crash investigation is being handled by the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit (C.A.R. Unit), with assistance from the Tilton Police Department. Gage, according to a sex offender website and the state’s sex offender registry, was convicted of two counts of felonious sexual assault of a victim between 13 and 16 in 2004. He was reportedly arrested nearly 10 years ago after allegedly pulling a screwdriver on a Home Depot employee. Scott Murray, a prosecutor at the time who is now the Merrimack County Attorney, noted that Gage’s past criminal record after the 2007 incident included the sexual assault charges as well as second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and drug charges, according to the report. According to the state of New Hampshire, Gage was also convicted of simple assault and theft in 2015 and reckless conduct in 2011.
