NH Weather Alert: Dense Fog, Flooding, And Slick Roads
Breaking: The National Weather Service issues urgent winter weather advisories for Merrimack, Hillsborough, and Rockingham Counties.

GRAY, ME — The National Weather Service issued three different "urgent" winter weather advisories this afternoon for most of the state of New Hampshire including Merrimack, Hillsborough, and Rockingham Counties warning of slick driving conditions, dense fog, and flooding. At just before 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2018, forecasters warned of a cold front crossing the region this evening that will result in “rain rapidly changing to a wintry mix and then snow before ending Saturday morning.” A period of slick travel is expected including icy, very slippery conditions on sidewalks, roads, and bridges, with ice accumulations of a light glaze expected.
The alert is active from tonight through Saturday afternoon.
A small stream flood advisory was also issued this afternoon for the entire Granite State due to rain and snowmelt after more than an inch of rain fell on the state today.

“Periods of moderate to briefly heavy rainfall are expected, accompanied by continued snowmelt,” the alert noted. “Overflowing poor drainage areas, including areas with snow-clogged drains, will result in minor flooding in the advisory area. Small streams may also experience rapid rises as a result of the rain and snowmelt.”
Colder, drier air will enter northern New England late tonight and into tomorrow, “gradually easing the threat for flooding.”

A dense fog advisory was also issued this afternoon lasting through tomorrow morning with driving distances reduced to a quarter of a mile or less, at times, throughout the state.
