NH YMCAs Gear up for Youth and Government Program
More than 27 schools will be sending 300 teens and school advisors to the 68th Annual in April.

CONCORD, NH - The YMCAs of New Hampshire held the first weekend in their annual New Hampshire Youth and Government Program involving 27 schools, 300 teens and school advisors/YMCA volunteers. The motto of the YMCA Youth & Government Program is “Democracy must be learned by each generation.”
The program celebrates its 68th year this year and gives high school students the opportunity to learn first-hand about state government through two weekends held in March and April.
The pre-Legislative Election Day was held on March 19, 2016, and the following students were elected to key offices:

- Youth Governor Tyler Welch White Mountain Regional High School
- Senate President Jacob Henning Nashua High North
- House Speaker Victoria Sanchez Nashua High North
- Chief Justice Jordan DiTore Timberlane High School
- Editor in Chief Kate Barker Trinity High School
The final phase of the program, the Model Legislature, is scheduled for April 8, and April 9, 2016, in Concord.
Gov. Maggie Hassan, D-Exeter, will welcome delegates to the state house as part of the opening ceremonies.

During the two day Model Legislature delegates will discuss and debate some 120 bills they’ve prepared as part of the program.
Henry Veilleux of Sheehan & Phinney Capitol Group and Stephen Duprey of the Duprey companies will serve as co-chairs of New Hampshire’s YMCA Youth & Government Program which is sponsored by the NH/VT State Alliance of YMCAs.
According to a press statement, sponsors for 2016 include The Duprey Companies, Comcast, Prospect Hill Strategies, Unitil, Bank of NH, Sheehan Phinney Capital Group, New Hampshire Democratic Party, Town and Country Reprographics and Waste Management, Inc.
