NH's 'Castle In The Clouds' Added To National Historic Register

New Hampshire mountaintop estate "Castle in the Clouds" in Moultonborough was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

MOULTONBOROUGH, NH — A New Hampshire mountaintop estate known as "Castle in the Clouds" has been added to the National Register of Historic places, officials announced Tuesday. The Lucknow home, built of stone, is set on 5,294 acres and offers 75-mile views across Lake Winnipesaukee and the White Mountains. It was built in 1913 by Thomas Plant, a French-Canadian industrialist.

"All of the property’s historic buildings, landscape features and acreage will be protected, conserved and professionally managed in perpetuity," said Shelly Angers, of the New Hampshire Department of Natural & Cultural Resources, in a statement.

The property has a 2-mile driveway and 40 miles of roads and paths. Inside the home, there is an Italian marble fireplace, Tiffany Studios skylights, and a Western Electric Interphone system.
