No More Chocolate for Bear Bait?

NH Fish and Game leader suggests ban after overdoses last year.

After four bears overdosed on chocolate, a state official is proposing a ban for its use as bait in New Hampshire, according to AOL.com.

Andrews Timmins, the bear project leader for the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, made the proposal at a fish and game commission meeting earlier this week after four bears were found to have died of heart failure due to consuming chocolate and donuts.

“We view bear baiting as an important management tool,” he said. “It’s not something we want to go get rid of, but perhaps some modifications need to be made to determine bear baiting practices to eliminate the chances of chocolate poisoning our wildlife.”
