NWS Issues Winter Storm Watch for NH Through Tuesday
Breaking "Significant winter storm" will bring a mix of snow, ice, freezing rain, gusty winds to the Granite State; up to 6 inches possible.

GRAY, ME — The National Weather Service has issued both “hazardous weather outlook” and “winter storm watch” alerts for the state of New Hampshire due to a “significant winter storm” heading to New England that is currently triggering tornadoes and thunderstorms to the southeast, according to alerts. The NWS issued the alerts at 3:04 and 3:18 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2017, running through Tuesday afternoon.
The low-pressure system is running up the northeastern part of the country from the south and is expected to “bring an array of precipitation types” into the area.
“Confidence is fairly high that temperatures will remain near freezing across large portion of New Hampshire and western Maine,” according to the winter storm alert. “Precipitation may start as a brief wintry mix before changing to snow for most of the area away from the coast.”

Snow accumulations could reach up to 6 inches in spots by the end of the storm with as much as a tenth of an inch of ice. The lower half of the state will probably see lower snow accumulations. Winds are expected to be out of the northeast from 10 to 20 mph with gusts of up to 35 mph.

Questions remain, forecasters noted, as to whether or not the storm will stall to the south, which will limit the amount of snow accumulation. But the complexity of the system is expected to make the Monday and Tuesday morning commutes difficult.
AccuWeather.com also warns of possible flooding and the strongest winds along the coast, according to forecasters.
